Best Tulum Mexico Resorts For All Budgets In 2022

Need a quick answer on where to stay in Tulum? Here are our current favorites, depending on what type of traveler you are:

Tulum is not a very big place. So no matter where you choose to stay, you’ll always be close to the action. Basically, Tulum consists of a small town (or “pueblo”) about 3 km from the coast. The city is connected to the beach by Avenida Coba (Route 109), which in turn connects to the Beach Access Road (Route 15) that runs parallel to the playa.

When considering the best places in Tulum, you only need to decide one question:

Tulum is a recommended place to stay for budget travelers, long-term tourists or party goers who prefer proximity to bars and nightlife. However, if you are on vacation and can afford it, the beach area provides the most memorable Tulum experience. After all, you are going to Tulum to see its amazing beaches!

The Ultimate Tulum Travel Guide

Now, while the beach and the city are generally similar, each area has some differences, so in the following sections we’ll look at where to stay in Tulum Beach and where to stay in Tulum City.

Tulum actually has only one 10 km long beautiful beach. Tulum Beach is bordered to the north by the Mayan ruins of Tulum National Park and to the south by the entrance to the Sian Ka’an National Biosphere Reserve.

The coastal area of โ€‹โ€‹Tulum can be roughly divided into three zones: North, Central and South. The North Beach area is my favorite because of its proximity to the ruins of Tulum and public parking. But the central and southern coastal region has a wide selection of shops and restaurants.

Many travelers choose to stay in the city of Tulum to save money. You’re not even that far from Tulum Beach, so this is my chance when I get there. It’s a great place to get out and explore the city on a day trip from Tulum.

The town ‘or pueblo’ has many great bars and restaurants and everything from high-end boutique hotels with great swimming pools to budget hotels and motels. There is also a distinctly named part of the city called Aldea Zama, which is an affluent residential area with luxury condominiums, high-end Airbnbs and a few luxury hotels.

Tulum is often the preferred destination for travelers looking for a beach-centric vacation. The beaches of Tulum are the best because of their white sand and turquoise water. In contrast, Playa del Carmen is cheaper. Being larger than Tulum, you’ll find plenty of nightlife and all-inclusive resorts in Playa del Carmen.

While Tulum’s beach strip or “hotel zone” is the star of the show, Tulum’s downtown area has budget options and authentic Mexican restaurants like Antojitos La Chiapaneca.
