Six Reasons To Visit Wakefield

Delphi Cafe and Restaurant, as the name suggests, serves excellent Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. Go for a three-course meal, with delicious options such as a fresh Greek salad or

(meatballs) followed by an appetizer such as moussaka or pork souvlaki and finished with a sweet slice of baklava. Owners Julie and Alexios and their staff make customers feel welcome and comfortable in a small family establishment. Each dish is carefully prepared with fresh ingredients according to traditional Greek recipes. The menu also includes non-Greek options.

The small Wetherby Whaler chain started in Tadcaster in 1969 and has since expanded to locations across the country. The Wakefield location opened in 2001 and offers classic fish and chips in a convenient location just off the M1. The signature Wheeler recipe features quality haddock in a crispy batter served with freshly cut Mars Piper potatoes. Although best known for its fish and chips, Wetherby Wheeler has plenty of fish, veg and meat options on its menu.

If the tagline doesn’t scare you – “Exceeding Averages and Expectations Since April 2013”, head to the Smokehouse for American-style dining. The Smokehouse serves authentic barbecue, huge burgers and hot wings. Try the Full House Burger, a double-cheese grilled monster topped with slow-roasted beef brisket, house pulled pork and bacon. Other fun burger creations include nacho burgers and pizza. Some burgers are expensive, but they come with incredible amounts of meat, so if you’re looking for quality and quantity, you won’t be disappointed. The menu is geared towards carnivores, but vegetarians have plenty of options.

Opened in 2003, the Cowshed offers a traditional English menu with a modern twist. The dimly lit dining room is a cozy setting for a rainy day, while the exposed stone walls and glass ceiling give the restaurant a rustic feel. The team aim to showcase what Yorkshire has to offer – preparing each dish with as much local, seasonal produce as possible. The restaurant is housed in the Grade II listed building where John Harris wrote the book.

The Cowshed, as its name suggests, is best known for its excellent steaks, but the menu has plenty of fish and vegetable options, such as grilled salmon wrapped in Parma ham or porcini mushroom and spinach risotto.
