Carson City, 2 N.W. – Today, Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt announced a $1.2 million grant to the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR) to establish a new OB/GYN department in Reno with partners from the Laxalt University Community and Hospital. The new department will provide IC students with education in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as staff training and research, to improve the health of women in Northern Nevada.

Pfizer will receive UNR’s share of $3.8 million over five years under an agreement between the pharmaceutical company and the state of Nevada. The settlement found that Pfizer illegally advertised certain postmenopausal hormone treatments.
