Skipping expensive hotels and hostels near Oktoberfest is one of the best ways to keep your Oktoberfest budget in check.

Best Hostels In Munich

Dirty hostels that cost less than €10 a night in another city can easily go up to €100 or more per bed… and that’s even if you book in time.

Where To Stay In Munich: 8 Best Areas

Most hostels are booked months in advance. Even in March most hostels near Theresienwiese will be sold out at best… SO I say book as soon as you know you are going!

I know this is a difficult task, so let me help you. If you are looking for the best hostels in Theresienwiese, my list is carefully researched. You can also read my full guide to hosting Oktoberfest on a budget.

Looking for a last minute Oktoberfest booking? Stoke Travel still have camping near the town center this year with tents, breakfast/dinner and a real party for €60 a night. Check availability here. PS: You can click here for free unlimited beer and sangria.

If you are looking for the best shared hostel near Oktoberfest in terms of comfort, location and experience, Wombats City Hostel Munich is my choice. Not only is it the best-rated hostel in town, it’s only 7 minutes from Theresienwiese by public transport and 15 minutes on foot.

The interior is bright and modern, with a stunning glass garden for guests to admire, as well as all the standard amenities you’d look for in a hostel, such as free Wi-Fi, 24-hour reception, laundry facilities and a bar. . . Best of all, for a small extra fee you can have an all-you-can-eat breakfast, which will fill your stomach perfectly for endless Oktoberfest beers.

NOTE For obvious reasons, Wombats is already booking up fast for Oktoberfest, so I would book as soon as possible.

If you want to be just a three-minute walk from the Oktoberfest area, Smart Stay Hostel Munich City is the choice. This is the closest hostel to Októberfest, a ridiculous 3 minute stumble from tents to bed.

Of course, given the great location, it has its drawbacks. Guests often complain about very poor Wi-Fi, no plugs/functions and sometimes strange smells. Otherwise, this looks like a pretty clean alternative, SO close to Oktoberfest, it’s impossible to resist.

Wombats City Hostel Munich, Munich

NOTE Thanks to its location, Smart Stay Munich City Hostel is probably the most popular Oktoberfest hostel. Availability (when I reviewed it in March) seemed to be almost non-existent, so get it ASAP.

If you’re looking for a cheap hostel near Oktoberfest (and don’t care about amenities and perks), I’d recommend Smart Stay Hotel Station.

“Hotel” means it won’t really have a social hostel feel, but if you’re looking for a cheap place to chill within walking distance of Oktoberfest, it’s usually a cheap option with plenty of rooms. available even months ago.

NOTE Many reviews complain that this place is old, dirty and in poor condition. Everything is also extra including wireless BUT it’s a short walk from Októberfest (about 20 minutes) and the best thing is that there are still rooms available as I’m writing this for less than €70 (hostel) and €100 ( one person ), which is more than I can say about other hostels in Theresienwiese. Beggars can’t be voters on Oktoberfest, so if you’re looking for cheap accommodation, this is the place.

The 10 Best Munich Hostels Of 2022 (with Prices)

Whether the recommendations above are booked or you just want to explore your options, I’ve compiled this basic list of hostels around Munich and arranged them in this table by things like rating, distance to Oktoberfest, other amenities, and more.

What I will say is that almost ALL hostels at Oktoberfest will be expensive, but as long as you’re close to public transportation, you won’t have much trouble getting to the festival.

My final recommendation for cheap Oktoberfest accommodation is camping. If all the hostels listed above are booked and a hotel/AirBNB is out of your price range, this is pretty much your last option… well, except for Tinder 😉

The best last minute option is Stoke Travel. I say like last minute? Well, let’s just say they even abandoned camping last year when Oktoberfest started because they have A LOT of tents!

. Knowing what you know now about Oktoberfest prices, I’m sure you’ll understand how AMAZING this deal is. Check availability here.

Warning: Camping is a very affordable option for backpackers and not for the faint of heart. You’ll be sleeping in tents, it might be cold, it won’t be the Ritz at all, and there will be a LOT of drunk people in your personal space.

If you are moderately germaphobic, hate crowds, noise, etc., this is not for you… but if you love a good party and want to enjoy Oktoberfest on the cheap, this is for you. Click here to learn more. !
