“As part of the investigation, we have closed about 20 large facilities in the past two years and expect to close a large number this year,” Chief Corie Barry said at the inquiry Thursday. “We’ve also reduced the length of our custom list, which will continue to be flexible.”

Best Buy has 450 store listings expiring in the next three years, and the company doesn’t plan to renew all of them, CNN reports.

Online sales have increased for the company, and Best Buy plans to hire 2,000 part-time workers. The online company believes that 40 percent of all sales in 2021 will be online, up from 19 percent in 2019.

According to company officials, the recent changes, as well as the closing of stores in the future, are why Best Buy will have to adjust its operations due to the change in sales.

“In addition to our specialty stores, our business model needs to improve to meet the shopping needs of our customers that have been accelerated by the pandemic,” Barry said, according to USA Today. “The sudden and ongoing shift of consumers towards traditional shopping and consumption across all our channels has forced us to look at how we do our business.”

In the Hudson Valley, Best Buy has locations in Poughkeepsie, Monroe, Middletown, Mohegan Lake, West Nyack, Hartsdale, Yonkers and Mount Vernon. Something close to opening an Apple store in southern Iowa; for Quinton’s, the Arts Center is planning other news in the city

Store manager Samantha Sexton shows the lobby of Simply Mac, 3221 Iowa St., on Aug. 16, 2021.

I am not old enough to remember the days when a child brought an apple to the teacher. (I’m sure “apples only” would make my teachers feel good about me.) But my wallet and I are well aware of today’s student habit of bringing Apple computers to school. It’s a big deal in Lawrence, and now there’s a new Apple-licensed retailer looking for it.

Simply Mac has opened on South Iowa Street in one of the buildings in front of the Target store. The small chain — about 50 stores across the U.S. — sells and repairs Apple products from its location at 3221 S. Iowa St.

Store manager Samantha Sexton says there’s a simple reason why the company made Lawrence its first Kansas location: the students.

“We really like being in college towns, and we like places that don’t have an Apple store nearby,” Sexton said.

Apple, of course, operates many company stores across the country, but there isn’t one in Lawrence. Sexton said Simply Mac is trying to fill that gap in communities.

“We’re like an Apple store, but not as good,” Sexton said. “We’re between a Best Buy and an Apple Store.”

This means that the company sells new Apple computers and iPads, and it means that all store employees and technicians have undergone Apple-approved training. Devices sold through the store are certified by Apple.

“So, you’re not going to get a cheap gas cable,” Sexton said of non-branded items for Apple devices.

However, Simply Mac is not a complete Apple store as it does not sell all types of Apple devices or products. For example, the store does not sell iPhones. However, the store repairs all types of Apple devices, including smartphones. The store performs all warranty work on Apple devices and will also perform out-of-warranty repairs.

And it sells at least one thing you might expect: electric scooters. Mac only sells a variety of Segway scooters, both for adults and children. There is a small stamp on Apple products and scholarships. According to Sexton, the scooters are designed to connect to a person’s Apple ID, allowing them to be tracked if lost or stolen.

But generally the scholarships are good because they are interested in the group of students who want the shop. Otherwise, they are happy. According to Sexton, the top model in the store will travel about 40 miles on a single charge and will reach a top speed of 18 mph.
