The location of Edinburgh is in the east of Scotland. Of course, if you want to go to the beach. There are many beautiful beaches near Edinburgh to choose from. Choosing the best beaches near Edinburgh is a little difficult. So I decided to list my favorite beaches and suspect that there are many more beaches near Edinburgh that you can visit.

Some places are easily accessible. But some places you have to go for a car. and mostly south of the Firth of Forth, only two on the Fife line.

Top 10 Lothian Best Beaches

“Porty” as the locals know it. It’s the closest beach, just three miles east of Edinburgh city, and draws crowds from out of town when the weather is good (yes, in Scotland!). but it still retains the feeling of a seaside village

There are about 2 miles of sandy beach for sunbathing or picnicking. It is surrounded by beautiful walkways that pass through old buildings and small cafes and bars. The Beach Cafe or Espy are two of our favourites, and some things to do in Edinburgh.

Cramond is on the north side of the town where the River Almond meets the Firth of Forth. It is easily accessible by bus number 41.

A favorite is the footpath to Cramond Island. this is one of Edinburgh’s hidden gems! Spend a few hours at low tide and you can walk across the kilometer-long boardwalk to Cramond Island.

Five Stunning ‘hidden Gem’ Fife Beaches Just A Short Drive From Edinburgh

The island was originally a flock of sheep and a farmhouse. Later, during World War II, the island was fortified with anti-aircraft guns and armor. These remains are still found and explored to this day. Make sure you don’t get stuck on the island!

North Berwick is one of my favorite coastal towns in East Lothian and a great day trip from Edinburgh. It is very easy to access by train, 30 minutes. It is a beautiful downtown with unique shops and restaurants. (The ice cream and fish and chips are delicious!) and the stunning beach views and choice of 2 beaches, Milsey Bay and West Beach West Beach is great for swimming and sunbathing.

If you tire of the seaside, you can take a boat to Bass Rock from the Scottish Seabird Centre, or walk up North Berwick Law for stunning views of the countryside and sea.

The famous Silver Sands beach is the only beach in Fife on this list. It is easily accessible by public transport and along the Fife Coastal Walk. The beach overlooks the Firth of Forth to Inchmickery Island and Inchcolm Island and beach facilities include toilets, cafes and lifeguards in summer. You can rent kayaks and try windsurfing in summer. And this is a popular place for families.

Super Scottish Beaches

Tyninghame Beach is known as Ravensheugh Sands and offers a long stretch of sand and cliffs as a backdrop. And with views overlooking Bass Rock, it’s even harder to get there. But you can park at “Limetree Walk” and walk through the woods to get there. We actually saw a wedding venue near here and the view was amazing!

Aberlady is a lovely village in East Lothian with lots of little shops and cafes, from where you can walk across boardwalks and nature reserves to the beach. You have sand, salt marshes and mud all around to explore.

Silverknowes Beach stretches from Marine Drive to Cramond Island and is partly sandy and partly sandy. A three-mile hike with gear at one end.

We turned our backs on the nearby Torness power station. The beach at Thorntonloch is only 400 meters long but is a popular spot for swimming and fishing. And there is parking in the back.

Free parking and toilets are available in the car park. But you have to go to nearby Dunbar to get more gear.

Gallen beach is popular with walkers all year round and for sunbathing in the summer. Where the wind is strong. But this stretch of sand is one of the best beaches near Edinburgh. There are many ways to get to the beach on the dunes. Make sure you bring everything you need because it won’t be a quick trip by car!

Yellowcraigs is one of the secluded beaches near Edinburgh on the list. Because you have to drive through a small road. Near the village of Dirleton to get there. But the golden sands and big sands are worth the trip! There are also many rock pools to explore. Make it a fun birthday.

Seacliff is a private beach, but for £2 the owner will let you drive to visit it. Short walk to the beach. and offers beautiful views of Tantallon Castle in the distance on the beach and Bass Rock out at sea.

Pasir Putih Beach lives up to its name. Because the white sand beach is different from other golden bays. There are many places on the beach near Dunbar. You take a single track to a dim, winding bay with a grassy backdrop. The bay is sheltered by rocks at each end. And at low tide, there are rock pools to explore.

Gosford Sands, near Longniddry, is another East Lothian beach where you’ll need a car. There is a lot of sand under the sun. And the nearby cliffs are a great place to watch seabirds in their natural habitat. Note that there are no nearby locations. And find parking on the main road.

Another beautiful beach is located near Dunbar, but this beach is a short walk from the train station. This means it’s an easy drive from Edinburgh. Belhaven Bay is part of the John Muir Country Park and its stunning views and dunes have featured on many lists of Scotland’s best beaches. There is also a surfing school nearby if you want to try it out!

Musselburgh is just a short drive from Edinburgh. Easily accessible by boat, there are two beaches, but Fisherrow is my favorite.

Great Beaches Near Edinburgh

It runs from the harbor to where the River Esk meets the Firth of Forth past old buildings and drying farms. The Beach Walk is part of the John Muir Trail which stretches from Helensburgh in the north of Glasgow to Dunbar on the east coast.

There is public property in the port. And it’s only a short walk to Musselburgh High Street, with its many restaurants.

Finding a beach near Edinburgh is easy! These 15 beaches near Edinburgh are just a few, and there are many beautiful bays to explore. As far east as Fife Bay. There are many new places to explore and explore!
